Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Fishly ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use the app. Fishly is operated by Codexia. Fishly is an AI-powered aquarium fish identifier: you take a photo of a fish and the app identifies the species and returns care information for hobbyists. The app is designed to require as little personal data as possible. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal contact information to use the app.

1. Fish Photos & AI Analysis

When you scan a fish with your camera, or choose a photo from your library, the image is used only to identify the species and return care notes. This is the most important thing to understand about Fishly and your privacy:

  • The photo is sent to our server and then to our AI provider (Anthropic) for real-time analysis. The AI identifies the fish and returns its name, origin, and species-specific care information.
  • Your fish photos are not stored on our servers. The image is analyzed and discarded — we do not keep a copy of it, and we do not use your photos to train any model.
  • A copy of the photo is kept on your device so you can see it next to the fish in your tank. It is removed when you delete the app.

Camera and photo-library access are used solely to scan fish. You can review or revoke these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

2. Information We Process

Fishly works with an anonymous account that is created automatically on your device. We do not collect information that personally identifies you. The app processes the following limited data:

  • Anonymous identifier — an anonymous account ID created on your device, used to operate the app, keep your data in sync, and deliver your subscription. It is not linked to your real-world identity. Basic technical details such as your app version, language, platform, or time zone may be processed to run the service.
  • Your fish and tank data — the fish you identify and save, including the species name, the AI's care notes, and any care-log entries (such as water changes and feedings) you record. An optional habitat hint you provide (freshwater, saltwater, or pond) is used to improve identification.
  • Usage analytics — a small number of anonymous events about how the app is used are sent to our analytics provider so we can understand what works and improve the app. These events are tied only to your anonymous identifier, not to your real-world identity.
  • Subscription status — whether you have an active subscription and which plan, so the app can unlock premium features. Purchases are processed by Apple and our subscription provider; we do not receive or store your payment card details.
  • Push notification token — if you enable notifications, a device token is used to deliver support replies. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

3. Where Your Data Is Stored

Your tank, care log, and fish photos are stored on your device. To keep your data available across sessions, your saved fish and care entries (species names and care notes — not your photos) may also be synced to our secure server under your anonymous account. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Fishly uses the following third-party services, which process limited data on our behalf under their own privacy policies:

  • Anthropic — receives fish photos to perform the AI identification and generate care notes. Images are processed for the analysis and not retained by Fishly afterward.
  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Cloud Messaging) — creates your anonymous account, processes anonymous usage analytics, and delivers support notifications.
  • RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management. RevenueCat processes an anonymous purchase identifier and subscription events to manage your entitlement; it does not receive your name or payment card details.
  • Apple — App Store purchases and subscription billing. We do not receive or store your payment details.
  • Hark — powers the in-app support chat so we can respond to your questions.

5. Advertising & Tracking

Fishly does not show ads and does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and we do not sell your data.

6. Support Messages

If you contact us through the in-app support feature or by email, we process the messages you send and your anonymous user ID so we can reply and provide support. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your messages.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

We keep the limited data described above only as long as needed to operate the app and your subscription. Your tank, care log, and photos are stored on your device and are removed when you delete the app. If you would like us to delete the anonymous account and any synced data associated with your installation, contact us at the email below and we will assist you.

8. Care Information Disclaimer

The care notes Fishly provides are general guidance for aquarium hobbyists, not veterinary advice. Fishly is an identification and reference tool — it is not a substitute for a qualified aquatic veterinarian and does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition in a fish. 9. Children's Privacy

Fishly is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data, or to object to certain processing. Since Fishly does not collect personal identifiers, we may need additional information to locate the anonymous data tied to your installation. Contact us using the details below to make a request.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
